A Meeting for Stories

The third meeting of the readers Club was an interesting one in which many stories. The meeting started with Rugmini Ma'am telling us about how to enact a story. Then she asked us to enact stories. The first person to come was Abhinanth from the boys side who told the story about the Three Questions. The next story was also from the boys side. A boy from the eighth standard told the story about the Crow who was thirsty. He enacted the story very nicely. Then madam acted the story herself. And it was wonderful. It was really nicely told and the actions were done accordingly. Next up was the story of the emperor's clothes which was presented by Megha and another story about the Dog and his bone was presented. Also we were given some information about how to maintain our club notebook. Today's activity was a wonderful activity and I hope to see such activities in the future too.

There is a Girl on the Tracks

There is a Girl on the Tracks

This is the continuation and the climax of the story
'There is a Girl on the Tracks', which was given as an
activity in the  Readers and Quiz Club on 5th April 2013.
The story continues like this-

The  train was approaching with an immense speed and there was no stopping it.  The girl Michelle was now saved by Everett with his instant bravery.  She is now safe in the hands of Miguel.  But Everett, after saving the girl, stood on the train's path with its light gleaming on him.  There was  nothing for him to do now.  The motorman applied full brakes but the train would hit him in just 3 seconds.  He cannot save his life by jumping out. There was no hope left for him.

The train was coming for him and all he could do, with his courageous effort, was to lay down in the tracks.  He crossed and kept his hand over his chest and lied down between the tracks.  With no time the train covered him...No one knew what happened.  The only wish the people had was to see him alive. It took 8 seconds for the sparkling brakes to make the train stop.
At this, the officer with Miguel rushed down to the rails.  The passengers, who once heard what had happened, came for the big rescue.

Seconds past, down from the tracks, came a drizzling sound.  The officer had a peep into the rails.  And...with a deep breath, he announced, "He is alive."  Within seconds came out  the 'Hero Everest'.  A huge applause arose from motorman, Michelle...and from all those who witnessed this incident.

The train did him no harm.  But this hero became popular among everybody the very next day.  Everett and Miguel were praised for they have done, by saving a life.  They were awarded with many awards for this social work.
And what just had happened became a memorable incident for many who witnessed it.

TRANSFORMING  INDIANS  TO  TRANSFORM  INDIA

Author-A chinmaya mission initiative
Pges-306
Publisher-Chinmaya udghosh

This is a book that reminds us that it is through self-transformation alone that we can transform India. This book briefs us about six important transformations which will help to make ourselves a patriotic and responsible citizen towards our nation. The six transformations are-Patriotic transformation, physical transformation, emotional transformation, intellectual transformation, cultural transformation and spiritual transformation. Each transformation is briefed to us by simple stories and incidents which will make us aware about the recent problems that the country is facing.Since it is given in this form,it also makes the book very interesting throughout. The most inspiring aspect of this book is that many motivating quotes are given in all pages which will grab the attention of the readers. Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda always said"The country becomes a nation only if people are alert, vigilant and play an active role for the well being of the whole country.Otherwise,it is mere geographical location and a burden on mother earth."

SO I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT.....

                         MY TRANSFORMATION-TRANSFORMS NATION....

review - Malgudi Schooldays

Malgudi Schooldays

R.K.Narayanan
Introduction by Shashi Deshpande

This book is about the adventures of a boy named Swaminathan and his friends like Rajam and Mani in an imaginery South Indian town called ‘Malgudi’. This book is a slightly abridged version of ‘Swami and Friends’ , it includes two stories featuring Swami from ‘Malgudi days’ and ‘Under The Banyan Tree’. It is written by R.K.Narayan and illustrated by his brother R.K.Laxman. it is published in Puffin by Penguin books India. It has got 240 pages and in each page we can find humour and adventure.
Swami is a harum-scarum boy and his adventures are really funny. He is like most of us because he also don’t like Mondays, he has problems with his studies . In school he has friends, best friends, and even enemies like his teachers and headmaster. His father is stern but his mother and grandmother always supports him. At that time British were ruling India and so the Swadeshi movement is mentioned in this book. Swami burns his cap thinking it was foreign but actually it was a khaddar cap. He breaks the windows and was dismissed from his first school. Then he goes to another school, called Board High School.  They form ‘Malgudi Cricket Club’ or the MCC. Swami was called ‘Tate’ because he was a good bowler. This boy is also mischievous . He creates problem in the other school also and was scared and ran away from home. Finally after a lot of searching he was found. This parents were thankful to the District Forest officer, Mr. Nair. He had lost his way and had reached the Mempi forest and had luckily escaped from wild animals. This novel ends with the leaving of Rajam to Trichinopoly, because his father, the superintendent of Police, had got transferred.
I loved reading this book. In my opinion everyone should read this book and enjoy.

WELL BEGUN, HALF DONE...

WELL BEGUN, HALF DONE...
(Report of the Readers’ Club Activity conducted on 05-04-2013 )
It was a fruitful start for a new Academic Year. The club activities started with an Introductory Session. Then, Mujeeb Sir and Rugmini Madam briefed us about the Reader’s Club blog and the different activities which were going to be conducted during the course of the Academic Year.
The most interesting part was the election of the Club Secretary. The students who were interested to contest for the post were asked to put up their hands. Immediately a bunch of hands went  up. From the girls’ side it was two, and there were 4 contestants from the boys’ side.  Then came the twist of the day!!!. We all thought that the election would go on as usual, that is, students would be allowed to put up their hands for their favourite contestant.  But to our surprise, Sir announced that the election was going to be conducted online. The students who were standing for the post were allowed to campaign which made it all the more awesome.
ACTIVITY FOR THE DAY
Mujeeb Sir read out an amazing story from the Reader’s Digest. All were told to listen carefully. And when the time of the suspense came, he closed the book. We were like – “Oh my god !....now what would have happened to the protagonist???” The task given to us was to knit an ending to this story. All are eagerly waiting for the next Friday to reveal their ideas.
Looking forward to such activities in the future too.

Inheritance

AUTHOR- CHRISTOPHER PAOLINI
PAGES- 860
PUBLISHERS- CORGI BOOKS

Inheritance is the last and final book in the Inheritance cycle written by the bestselling author Christopher Paolini. The protagonists of the story are Eragon Shadeslayer, Saphira Brightscales, Arya Drotting and many others. The book continues the story of Eragon and Saphira from Brisingr, which is the third book in the cycle. The book starts just after the Siege of Feinster and after the death of the teachers of Eragon and Saphira,Oromis and Glaedr ( who still lived in the form of an Elduanri). In this book Glaedr continues his teaching so that Eragon may confront Galbatorix. Another thing which happens in this book is that Solembum's telling of the Vault of Souls to Eragon came true. In the vault of souls Eragon finds the Eldunari of the dragons of the old and takes them so that he can get the power needed to defeat Galbotorix. Nassuada is captured and Murtagh falls in love with her. In the final battle the elves join the varden and helps them to defeat Galbatorix's men. Murtagh and Eragon are asked to fight by the king in which Eragon defeats Murtagh. Murtagh turns against Galbatorix and helps Eragon to defeat the king and his old dragon, Shruikan. After the battle, the dragon egg that was in Galbatorix's possession hatches for Arya and is named Firnen. Saphira and Firnen mate together though only for a short time. And in the end Arya expresses her true feelings for Eragon, who leaves the imaginary world of Alagaesia to find a safe place to raise the Dragons of the future. The book is very easy to understand and I hope you all would enjoy reading this book.
